Category: the Rant Board
I just thought I would come up and rant a bit about my most hated dog school!!!!!! Pilot Dogs Inc in columbus Ohio!!! Tey are the worst dog school there is!!!! They don't know there asses from a hole in the ground... they can't even keep things streight with there paper work... they don't know wheather there dogs are coming or going... they don't know weather or not a dog has issues... because they can't fucking take the time to look in to things with the dogs. They don't even listen to what the handeler... has to say about what happened when they had a dog... I had a dog from there who bit... and they just turned around and reissued the fucking dog... cuz they didn't even listen to me when I told them that the dog had bitten someone. so... needless to say... they have no idea what the fuck is going on with all there dogs that they issue. they will issue a dog that has issues with lunging after other dogs and people... they will let a dog go out in the community after that dog has just been sent back in due to the fact that it lunged at someone and tried to bite them. They will sit there and tell a student... Oh well we liked your dog so we spoialed it... hope you don't mind. they just infuriate me!!!!!! They really do!!!

Well, there are good and bad points to every school. No school is perfect. Does Pilot have their issues? Of course they do. But name me a school that doesn't have one issue or another. If you don't like it, go to another school, but, for God's sake, bashing them gets nowhere.
I agree. Bashign doesn't do a damn thing. I have seen many dogs from other schools, who have done the same things that you are complaining about. Every single school out there, has it's good and bad. No one school is perfect. I, personally, went to Pilot Dogs nine years ago, and got my first guide dog. He is an incredible dog. I have never had any problems with him whatsoever, especially with lunging at people. It's never, ever happened. I could not have asked for a better dog. He's incredibly trained, and I feel very blessed to have gotten him. To this day, he continues to love his job, and I appreciate him more and more everyday. Now, like I said, I have seen some extremely awful dogs from other schools. This is not to say that I have not seen a bad dog come from Pilots. Of course I have seen a bad dog come from Pilots, but that does not mean that every dog from there is bad and that no one should ever go to the school, or even consider going there. I can tell some awful stories about other dogs from other schools, so don't think that it's just Pilots who has their problems. It's everywhere, and no matter where you go, there's always going to be good and bad.
I just don't have much for them... and this is the place to tell about something you hate right?v So... that's what I did.

All this post has achieved is to highlight how childish you are
instead of advertising it, why don't you climb out of your play pen and do something constructive about your situation like growing up and acting like an adult? if indeed you know what 1 is.
Well I live in Columbus where Pilot Dogs is located. And yes, I've heard that it has a bad reputation. But working at a rehab center where many clients have dogs from different schools around the country, I've seen good and bad dogs from all schools. I've also met people who should never have been given a dog from any school because their mobility skills suck. A mobility teacher I know said that people should ahve to be smarter than the dog, and I agree.
I agree. I've heard that about pilot. I also know some blind/vi people who don't deserve a dog because they don't take care of it and treat it like crap. If you are considering a dog you need to re evaluate your responsibility skills. I myself don't want a dog right now because I don't want to be responsible for it at this time.

I've been to Pilot, and I have to say that they did seem pretty unorganized. Granted, I was there in 1997, so things could have changed. But they have a reputation for giving out dogs that shouldn't be given out due to health or behavioral issues. Then again, I think every school has its advantages and disadvantages. And this is the rant board; so if someone feels like venting about a guide dog school, who are we to stand in their way?
Yeah, my cane has those problems too, I've just finally managed to teach it not to bite people and it totally eats wayy too much and I think it's aggressive. ;)
I'm not sure where my cane is from but people should watch out for these things, they can be vicious. Make sure you are smarter than the cane before you attempt to use it. And also I've noticed that my cane is a swinger and I don't agree with that much.
But what can I do, it just hangs around my closet and I have to take it when I go out.
cheers

I went to Pilot dogs in 97 as well, and from what I saw while I was there, there didn't seem to be any disorganization or anything of the sort. this isn't to say that it wasn't there, but I didn't see it. I got a fantastic dog, and could not have asked for another. Maybe they've changed over the years, I don't know, but when I was there, it seemed like a good school. I didnt' notice any dog that had a behavioral problem or anything. All the dogs that I saw were very good dogs, and in excellent health. I said before in my last post to this topic that I could tell other stories from other schools. well, for one, I went to high school with a girl who went to one of the schools in California for her guide dog, and she went through three dogs in less than a year. Is this right? Of course it isn't. the first dog had to be retired, because the school gave him to her, and he had a serious eye condition. The second dog was not completely trained. She wouldn't listen at all, she always walked the girl out in front of moving vehicles, etc., and they told her that they were leaving it up to her to complete the dog's training. That was unbelievable. It is not our responsibility to train the dogs. Yes, it is our responsibility to keep up with the dog's training after we get him/'her, but it is not our responsibility to do the initial training. finally, she got a third dog. I guess this one finally worked out for her, but it was unbelievable how her school treated her, and how lightly they seemed to take the dogs training, etc.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hate pilot dog's but I certainly wouldn't get into any aircraft that they were flying!
It's all based on personal opinion. Who knows, I might see some flaws when I go to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
